Shaq to Become a Hawk?
It appears as if LeBron James may not be the only free agent to abandon the Cleveland Cavaliers during the off-season. Shaquille O’Neal may very well be looking to suit up in a different uniform next season as well.
According to reports, the Atlanta Hawks have shown an interest in signing the 38-year old center. The Hawks have discussed signing O’Neal to a 2-year deal worth $11.7 million, a paltry price tag for a 15-time All-Star and 2-time Finals MVP.
Atlanta is also looking at other veteran centers like Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Brad Miller. At the moment the team’s interest in O’Neal has been labeled as in the preliminary stages.
Cleveland could be interested in going a different route themselves. According to reports, the Cavaliers have shown interest in Dallas Mavericks free agent center Brendan Haywood.
However, the Hawks like the current make-up of the squad and do not want to alter the formula too drastically even though they were dismantled by the Magic in the second round of the playoffs.
