With a Wimbledon in women’s singles this year that saw top seeds eliminated and main contenders beaten, the tournament ended with Serena Williams hoisting the trophy once again.

Serena delivered a battery of aces, a record 89 for the tournament, and took another step towards becoming one of the games all-time greats. It ended on Saturday afternoon, in a little more than an hour, a devastating 6-3, 6-2 victory against Vera Zvonareva.

Williams captured her second consecutive Wimbledon title and her fourth title over all, and her 13th Grand Slam singles title. It moved her past Billie Jean King and into sixth place on the career list in women’s tennis.

“This one’s special,” Williams said during an on-court interview, adding. “Hey, Billie. I got you.”

This championship had been a strange Wimbledon for Williams, but with the Queen of England in attendance for the first time in 33 years, Williams was on her game in the finals.

Her sister Venus lost in the quarterfinals, ensuring that the sisters would not play against each other in the final for the first time in three years, and they lost playing together in the doubles match.

But in singles, Serena rarely found herself in danger and she did not so much as drop a set in the two weeks at the famed English tennis club.
