Former No. 1 ranked tennis star Jennifer Capriati, 34, was in stable condition and recovering from an accidental overdose of an unidentified prescribed medication on Monday.

Capriati, who has had a career sidetracked by personal troubles, as she was arrested for shoplifting at a Florida mall in 1993, and for marijuana possession in 1994, was rushed to a South Florida hospital early Sunday morning.

No news has been released as to how Capriati was found or who called emergency services.

The Capriati family has released a statement thanking all the fans and friends for their support and that Jen is recuperating at a South Florida hospital, that the medication was prescribed by her personal physician, and that she is recovering fully and stably.

Public records show Capriati owns a condo on Singer Island in Palm Beach County, Fla. The local police or fire departments did not have a record of what happened and local hospitals did not have a patient listed under Capriati's name.

At Wimbledon on Monday, Serena and Venus Williams took a moment after wins to extend their concern.

"I probably will definitely see how that goes and pray for everyone involved," Serena said. "If there's any way I can do anything to help, reach out, I definitely will do that."

"I remember her match against Monica [Seles] in the semifinals of the [French] Open,” Venus said. “I remember watching that and just thinking how great that tennis was. So definitely a lot of fond memories just watching her growing up, and obviously even playing against her, respecting her game so much."

Capriati won three majors - two Australian Opens and one French Open. She also won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics. She was the youngest semifinalist at the French Open in 1990, when at age 14 where she eventually lost to champion Monica Seles.

But the child prodigy, who had been pushed to play nearly her entire life, burned out of tennis and retired several times.

Capriati came back strong several times, reaching the U.S. Open semifinals in 2003, eventually losing to Justine Henin. She failed to gain any momentum from that run, and faded away from the game soon after.
