It has been confirmed by Team RadioShack that seven-time Tour winner Lance Armstrong will ride and compete in next month's 97th edition of the Tour de France which begins July 3 in the Dutch port of Rotterdam..

Team Radio Shack director Johan Bruyneel said on Tuesday that Armstrong will be joined by Americans Levi Leipheimer and Chris Horner, Andreas Kloden of Germany and Janez Brajkovic of Slovenia.

Also racing this year in the Tour de France for RadioShack will be Sergio Paulinho, of Portugal, Yaroslav Popovych of Ukraine, Gregory Rast of Switzerland and Dmitriy Muravyev of Kazakhstan.

If Armstrong actually won the the Tour de France at age 38, that would be a huge accomplishment, although 27 year old Spaniard Alberto Contador is the favorite to win.

Armstrong has played down his chances of winning an eighth Tour de France title despite lining up with a star studded RadioShack team.

In 1998, Armstrong successfully beat cancer and went on to win seven consecutive yellow jerseys from the world's toughest bike race from 1999-2005.

Having returned after a three-year 'retirement last year, Armstrong finished third behind Luxembourger Andy Schleck and this years favorite, Spanish champion Alberto Contador of Astana.

In the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday, Armstrong finished second, and performed well in both the time trials and the mountain stages of the race.

In May at the Tour of California, Armstrong crashed but was not seriously injured.
