Professional Bull Riders sanction events in Australia, but they usually feature Aussie riders. In late May and early June some American cowboys got to travel to the land down under where they rode the local bulls and checked out the local color.

McKennon Wimberly, Rocky McDonald, Luke Snyder, Caleb Sanderson, Skeeter Kingsolver, Harve Stewart, Ned Cross, Cody Campbell, Chance Roberts and Zack Brown went to Australia with Brendon Clark, Ben Jones, and Pete and Jared Farley.

While all of them found the Australian bulls impressive, Cross’ biggest turmoil was driving on the left hand side of the road. He practiced driving on the other side while taking a van into the outback. Kingsolver stayed at a bull owner’s ranch where he showered with water that was captured in an old fertilizer container. Maybe being that close and personal with the local bulls helped him in the point standings. Kingsolver did not win any of the events, but he garnered the most overall points.

Wimberly, who was experiencing Australia for the second time, was impressed by the bloodlines of the bulls currently being used in competition. He noted that even American bloodlines are being introduced into the bulls.

All of the riders gave high marks to the locals for staging great events and for making sure that their guests were entertained.

Next week, on June 21, PBR travels to Calgary to stage an event to honor Canadian National Aboriginal Day. Teaming with the Tsuu T’ina Nation PBR will participate in the Tsuu T’ina Nation PBR Invitational in Calgary, AB, Canada at the Grey Eagle Casino.  The event is significant in that it is the first PBR event to take place in a natural grass arena in North America.

Canadian bulls like Unibomber and Slash will be featured and the $30,000 one day payout is the largest in Canadian history.
