He Wrote the Book on Omaha High-Low

Sammy Farha says he thinks he knows how to play Omaha. After prevailing in a 13 hour final table marathon that saw him duel for five hours with second place finisher James Dempsey some might say he wrote the book on the game. Actually, he did. Farha has authored a book entitled “Farha on Omaha” a poker strategy book that highlights his favorite card game. Maybe his opponents should pick up a copy before they sit down at a table with the author.

Farha’s victory at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV netted him a World Series of Poker gold bracelet and $488,241 in prize money. Some felt the pot wouldn’t cover the entry fee in most of the high stakes games Farha prefers over tournaments. However, Omaha High-Low will entice Farha to sit at a tournament table. It is unlikely that he expected to sit at this table for this long, but for a man who likes Omaha, forcing the tournament into an extra day was no problem.

The tournament started with 212 players and the final table seated nine. Included in that number were four WSOP bracelet winners in James Dempsey, Michael Chow, Abe Mosseri and, of course, Farha. Chow finished sixth and Mosseri settled for eighth place.

Coming off of a WSOP bracelet winning event nine days prior to the tournament, Dempsey missed his chance for back to back gold when Farha eked out a victory after 12 hours and 20 minutes of final table action.

It was 6:50 am on the fourth, or extra, day of the tournament when Farha could finally close the book on another Omaha High-Low win. For the winner it was a story book ending.
