Washington Redskins Albert Haynesworth has announced that he will be skipping the teams’ mandatory mini camp because he is unhappy with the new defensive scheme and wants to be traded.

Haynesworth claims that when he signed his record $100 million contract last season, the Redskins were running a 4-3 defense which suits his skill sets much better and that he is extremely unhappy that they are changing to a 3-4 defense under Mike Shanahan this season, a scheme he does not want to play in.

Haynesworth also skipped the first two voluntary minicamps as well while hoping the Redskins would trade him.

Because he is skipping the team's mandatory minicamp and demanding a trade, his Redskins teammates have publically said that he is being very selfish and that this does not sit well with them.

Players have also said that even last season Haynesworth’s attitude was questionable as he wanted everything to revolve around him and him making plays, and if it did not benefit him, he was not really willing to do it.

Coach Mike Shanahan revealed that the team gave Haynesworth the chance to find another team up until April 1, when he was due a $21 million bonus. Once he took the check, Shanahan and the team expected him to be there.

After Haynesworth held to his word and skipped a mandatory minicamp, Shanahan said he was very upset that the former Pro Bowler was not there, especially after he accepted the huge bonus. According to Shanahan, the team had an agreement with Haynesworth that if he took the bonus, he would willingly consent to the team's plans for him.

League sources have said that the Redskins are now attempting to get that $21 million payment returned.
