Major League Lacrosse named the winners of the week 5 Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards. Two went to players from teams on the top and the other went to a team that is hoping to build on momentum.

Matt Danowski of the 2-3 Long Island Lizards won the Offensive Player award as he led his team to their come from behind victory over the third place Chicago Machine. Danowski scored five goals and registered an assist in the 13-12 overtime win. The attackman is sixth in scoring in the league with 17 points.

First place Chesapeake Bayhawks goalie Chris Garrity earned the Defensive Player of the Week by limiting the Toronto Nationals in a 10-9 win. Toronto came out firing and Garrity met their attack with six saves in the first quarter. Consistency has been the name of Garrity’s game as his 11.30 goals against average and .620 save percentage are best in the MLL. His 4 wins and 85 saves also top all goalies.

Max Quinzani of the second place Boston Cannons was awarded the first Rookie of the Week award to be handed out this season. Quinzani battled both the elements and the Denver Outlaws as he scored three goals and had one assist on a rainy Saturday afternoon helping his team to a 17-12 win. He helped put the game away by producing all of his scoring in the second half.

Quinzani noted the difference in physical style between the MLL and his days at Duke. He also mentioned how exciting it was to have a great game in front of the home town fans.
