The Hershey Bears beat the Texas Stars 4-0, to claim their second Calder Cup in two years. Back-to-back Calder Cup championship wins put the Hershey Bears in the AHL playoff history books. Goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who backed in net for the Washington Capitals this season, made 22 saves in the Game 6 victory.

The Bears, who dropped the first two games on home ice, won two straight on the road to tie the series with the Texas Stars at 2-2 heading into Game 5 on Friday in Austin. But the Bears took control, winning Game 5, 2-1, taking the series lead 3-2.

Hershey’s roster features 18 members of last year’s Calder Cup championship team including players to watch, Keith Aucoin and Alexandre Giroux, who have combined for 203 goals and 290 assists for 493 points in Hershey’s 197 regular-season and playoff games over the last two years. Beginning their affiliation with the Washington Capitals in 2005, the Bears have had four appearances in the finals within those five years.

As for the Stars, no team has ever lost the first two games at home in the Calder Cup race and come back to win the series. The Texas Stars have put 20-yr-old Dallas Stars prospect Jamie Benn on the ice throughout the playoffs, despite just coming off of his NHL stint with the Dallas Stars. This series makes the first Calder Cup games in the state of Texas since the Houston Aeros won in 2003.

The Calder Cup was named for the National Hockey League's first president, Frank Calder, who was instrumental in the formation of the AHL in the mid-1930s and served as president of the NHL until his death in 1943. The AHL serves as a training ground for all 30 National Hockey League teams.
