No Shortage of Confidence in Miami

With the amount of money that owners dish out to the player roster and coaches they should be confident in the product that their team is capable of turning out. Stephen Ross, the new majority owner of the Miami Dolphins, made his confidence in his team public knowledge recently.

"I think in February, we will be playing in the Super Bowl.” (ESPN) Ross became an owner in 2008 when he bought half of the team; in January of 2009 he became the majority owner of the team.

With all his talk, Ross claims that he is not putting any undue pressure on his head coach Tony Sparano and quarterback Chad Henne even going as far as to compare the former Michigan quarterback to Dolphin great Dan Marino.

"Henne can handle the pressure…That I can tell you…I think the Miami Dolphins have a great quarterback for the future and I think everybody in South Florida is excited about what Chad Henne brings to this team." (ESPN)

Miami won the division in 2008 with an 11-5 record with Chad Pennington behind center. Pennington was injured early in the 2009 season leaving the door open for Henne. Henne would throw for 2878 yards and 12 touchdowns (with 14 interceptions) in 14 games. He won 7 of his first 11 before losing the last 3 to go 7-7.

Ross is not the only team in the AFC East making bold claims. Earlier this year, Rex Ryan, head coach of the New York Jets has already stated that his team will be in the Super Bowl.
