Going to Surf City with the AVP
Written by Daniel Turner, Wednesday May 26 2010
If you need a reason to hang out in Huntington Beach then you can use the AVP Nivea Tour as your excuse. The tour hits Surf City next weekend and runs from June 3-6.
On the women’s side April Ross, who grew up in neighboring Newport Beach, will be trying to snag her first Southern California title at Huntington. All she has to do is get around the home court advantage of Misty May-Treanor the current leader in points.
A number of men will be representing Orange County including Jake Gibb, Sean Rosenthal, Brad Keenan, Ty Loomis, Casey Patterson, Ryan Mariano, Ed Ratledge, Ty Tramblie and Jonathan Acosta. Since none of them are currently in the top five in points they will have their work cut out for them when they take to the sand to compete against top dogs Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rodgers.
For those who want to play like the pros, but lack the skills, all you will need when you hit the beach is an iPhone. June 1 is the premiere of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball iPhone Game designed by Soarian Studios. The game is affordably priced at $3.99, so while it lacks XBox glory it makes up for it in savings.
If you want to take a break from the volleyball action you can always check out the U.S. Open of Body boarding, the Professional Long board Association event and Beachside Summer Fest which will all be occurring simultaneous to the AVP tour.
If all of that isn’t enough to entice you to one of the coolest places on earth perhaps the CEO Challenge will get you applying the sun screen and donning your flip flops. CEOs of 16 companies will compete in the AVP sponsored event.
