Three of a Kind

The turbulence that has hampered the Gulf Coast in recent years was not reenacted at the Bayou Poker Challenge Tournament which concluded on May 18 at Harrah’s New Orleans. Instead of a winner take all duel to the death in the face of incalculable odds the top three players at the table shook hands and decided to call it a day. If hurricanes and oil spills were that easy to control and contain the Crescent City would not have suffered so mightily this century.

Ricky McGowan, Tony “Tekk” Seunsom and Gene “Timberrr” Timberlake decided to call it a day and split the winnings. Under their arrangement McGowan was declared the winner and got to grab the gold ring given to the tournament champion. Since McGowan is from Eunice, LA perhaps he was the chosen winner due to home court advantage.

Seunsom continued his second place ways by finishing in second place yet again. He didn’t get a ring, but he did pocket an additional $8,051. Timberlake has never won a WSOP tournament and the gentlemen’s agreement reached by the trio continued his winless cycle. While never having been sized for a ring he has racked up approximately $350,000.00 in tournament earnings. His third place finish in New Orleans netted him $5,132.

Timberlake may have been the largest beneficiary of three way deal. After getting off to a good start on day one his fate turned later and he was short stacked on chips entering the last day at the final table.
