Man Posing as High School Basketball Player Charged With Sexual Assault
Written by Bob Whalon, Sunday May 16 2010
Guerdwich Montimere, the 22-year-old who posed as a 16-year-old high school basketball player for Permian (Odessa, Texas), is facing up to 20 years in jail due to the latest charges against him.
Montimere posed as 16-year-old student Jerry Joseph at Permian and played on the basketball team this past season. His deception came to light last month when coaches from Florida recognized him at a tournament in Little Rock. He previously played high school basketball for Dillard in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2007.
Montimere has been arrested three times since last week. He was arrested on Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of failure to identify himself to a police officer. After he posted $500 bail, he was arrested on Thursday on a third-degree felony charge of tampering with a government document, but released after posting a $7,500 bond. Then on Friday he turned himself in and was arrested by Odessa Police on a sexual assault charge.
The sexual assault charge came after a 16-year-old girl told police that she had sex with Montimere when she was 15 and thought he was also 15.
Montimere has yet to give an explanation for his deception.
