Stealth Rock the NLL

The Washington Stealth knows how to make an introduction. Instead of coming into the National Lacrosse League and keeping a low profile while getting to know everyone they stomped in with a league best record and a spot in Saturday’s night NLL Champions Cup match. Courtesy of a league best record, the new kids on the NLL block get to host the event at the Comcast Arena in Everett, WA where fans have been loud, boisterous and supportive all season long.

Tomorrow night the Stealth will play the Toronto Rock for all the NLL marbles. Obviously they’re happy to be there, but even slightly giddier after giving up the tying goal to the Edmonton Rush with 20 seconds left in the Mann Cup match to determine the Western champ. The Stealth persevered in OT when Paul Rabil scored eight seconds into sudden death.

The script would have taken an unkind turn to eliminate the Stealth prior to the Champions Cup match. Success has come quick to the franchise as they took their baby steps through the NLL. They tied the Orlando Titans in the East for the league’s best regular season record. Their record and post season wins earned Coach Chris Hall the Coach of the Year award which he shares with Edmonton’s Derek Keenan.

Toronto finished with a 9-7 regular season record, but knocked off Eastern leader Orlando to earn their trip to Everett. They are captained by Colin Doyle who was traded by the Stealth in a deal which netted them three players. Saturday night they can cap an incredible season by hoisting the Champions Cup on their home floor. Then, all they have to do is worry about how to top 2010 next season.
