Looking Ahead to Monaco
Mark Webber may have started looking to this Sunday’s race in Monaco even before he glimpsed the checkered flag in Barcelona. You can’t blame him, since he never had to look at a car in front of him in Spain. Webber led the Gran Premio De Espana from start to finish. Pulling off a pole to pole win puts Webber in rarified air and lends credence to his Red Bull team.
However, in racing you don’t get to rest on your laurels. This week Webber is preparing for Monaco like his team mates and competitors. Several of the drivers are looking forward to getting off the track of Spain and onto the streets of Monaco.
The Williams team feels that the open road nullifies any momentum Webber may have gained in Spain. The streets take away the straightaway of a track and call for mechanical rather than aero strength and strategy. Suggesting that once Webber got out in front he could rely on the car, they feel that the driver becomes more instrumental in Monaco. William’s Rubens Barrichello looks forward to the speeds he can achieve in Monaco.
Long time driver Michael Schumacher of Mercedes GP is hoping to blow off a disappointing outing in Spain and enjoy the street racing of Monaco. Feeling he has yet to give his best effort this season he is eyeing up Sunday’s race as his chance to prove he can still deliver.
With the change of venue and course it is unlikely that Webber can pull off another clean sheet race. The competition seems determined to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
