Cushing could have Rookie Award stripped
Although it wasn't revealed until last week, Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in September and played the 2009 season with the likelihood of a four-game suspension hanging over him.
Cushing appealed the positive test in February, but he lost his appeal and will serve his suspension in the first four weeks of the 2010 season.
Since Cushing tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance prior to his Rookie of the Year season, the Associated Press is reconsidering the award that Cushing received after the season.
There are four possibilities that A.P. could do at this point:
1. They could allow Cushing to keep the award.
2. They could strip Cushing of the award and leave it at that.
3. They could strip Cushing of the award and give the award to second place finisher, Bills safety Jairus Byrd.
4. They could have a re-vote with or without Cushing’s name on the ballot.
It is possible that most of the voters still would have picked Cushing even if his failed drug test was known to them. If the A.P. does decide on a re-vote, it will be interesting to see if Cushing’s name will still be on the ballot.

Mike, We can agree to disagree. Cushing tested positive for high levels of estrogen in his system which is used to mask anabolic steriod use. Estrogen is used after doing a "cycle" of roids. He and Peppers both should have their Rookie of the Year awards stripped. No place in the game for players using performance enhancing drugs. Cushing started his roid use in high school at Bergen Catholic in NJ, carried over to USC and now he's doing it in the NFL. Let's see what he can do without the juice!

Whats really going on with this Cushing situation? Everyone is acting like Cushing is the person to ever violate the NFL's substance policy. @Terp - I see now you and I never agree on the same thing. #1 Cushing didnt test positive for steroids, so you are reacting to assumptions. #2 steroids doesn't give you the ability to play football.. if all you had to do is take a shot and become a superstar, the league would be full of superstars! Don't Diminish Cushings' accomplishments as if he didn't work Hard for it!

@Terp Fan- "Juice" head? Come on buddy, lets not get carried away. He hasn't test positve for any steriod substance. And if you want to take away his award then lets go back and take away Julius Peppers too. Because while Cushing had this non-steroidal supplement in his system on 1 test, and then never again. And Peppers missed the last 4 games of his rookie season and still won the award.

Strip it, the guy is a "juice" head! He does not deserve the award and should be banned for more than 4 games! Guys like Cushing are ruining the game, I will not pay any $ to see a fraud like him!
