Ray Lewis: Why is Everyone Helping Tebow?
Don’t expect Ray Lewis to run for president of the Tim Tebow Fan Club.
The Baltimore Ravens future Hall of Fame linebacker stopped short of making it a racial issue, but wondered aloud to ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd why so many people want to see Tebow, former University of Florida superstar and current Denver Broncos rookie quarterback, succeed.
Asked by Cowherd whether Lewis was shocked by the media attention on the Tebow story prior to the draft, Lewis said, "The thing I was more shocked by is you see all the people who were willing to help him. I don't know many people who were willing to help other athletes like that. Jon Gruden loved him to death. You see all these people who took out their personal time to really work with him and make this big issue, big issue, big issue. I don't know why he was any different than anyone else. Every young child has that dream, that same dream that Tebow had. So I don't know why he was bigger … than any of the other guys.
"He went to a big program, and, yes, he might be a favorable person, but nobody else in the league, definitely not veteran players, see themselves differently than any other player."
Whether or not Lewis speaks for other NFL veterans, especially those whom Tebow will have to deal with in his own locker room in Denver, remains to be seen. But Tebow’s immense popularity, unprecedented level of success in college and budding bro-love affair with Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels could cause hard feelings from other players.
How will Tebow handle the attention, both positive and negative, will go a long way toward determining what kind of career he will have – and certainly how his rookie season will go. It’s hard to run an offense when no one in the huddle will listen to you.

First let me say that I am a big fan of Ray Lewis, but I am disappointed if he actually made these statements. did he step forward with a statement when everyone was saying Tebow didn't belong in the NFL? So a few people stepped forward to support this kid, what does this have to do with Ray Lewis? sounds like jealousy to me. P.s. I still think Ray lewis is one of the best linebackers to play the game.

Normally and morally I am usually in disagreement with what comes out of Ray Lewis mouth, however, I cannot disagree with him on this. I don't understand why Tebow seems to be put on this pedastal and made a big deal out of. He is no different than the boy down the street growing up with nothing and was determined to make something out of themselves. We could list millions, if you can list him, find and list them giving each one the same chance at fame as he.
