Calvin Borel rode Super Saver to victory on Saturday in the 136th Kentucky Derby.  Borel's run for the roses was his third Derby victory in the last four years.  He is the only jockey to ever achieve that feat.

On a day when the track was muddy, Borel had the perfect plan.  "Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he's even five lengths better," Super Saver trainer Todd Pletcher said.  "He knows how to ride this track and gets along with his colt beautifully."

Right out of the starting gate Borel took Super Saver to the rail.  It's a tactic that has earned him the nickname "Bo-rail".  And on this sloppy track it was the perfect strategy.  While other riders took their horses well off the fence in the muck, Borel hugged that rail in sixth place.  Once he got around front-running Conveyance, the victory was his.

Ice Box finished in second by 2 1/2 lengths and Paddy O'Prado finished in third in the race.

When asked about his strategy of riding the rail to victory Borel simply said, "I was just taught it's the shortest way around."
