Hamlin Holds on to win Samsung Mobile 500
Denny Hamlin held on and held off Jimmy Johnson for the victory in the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday.
Hamlin did not have the best race car but it was good enough to win at
Hamlin started the race 29th, but led the final 12 laps of the 334-lap race. After a spectacular nine-car wreck took pole driver Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon out of the race, he held off points leader Jimmie Johnson at the end for his 10th career NASCAR Sprint Cup victory.
Two days after his victory at
Hamlin was still hurting and the cool and wet weather did not help the soreness at all.
"A win like today obviously makes you feel a little bit better,” Hamlin said. “Gives you a little bit of confidence from here on out."
Hamlin, 11th in points after two wins in three races, said he is "still a good month away from getting back where I was."
There were 29 lead changes in the race, tying the record for the Cup series at the 1½-mile high-banked
Kyle Busch finished third, ahead of older brother Kurt, who won at
