Broncos' Marshall Signs his Tender

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall signed his $2.521 million tender on Tuesday.  That move is seen as the first step in Marshall being traded.

The Broncos slapped a first-round tender on Marshall and no team was willing to give up a first round pick to sign him.  The only team that had Marshall in for a visit was the Seattle Seahawks.  The Seahawks were obviously unwilling to part with the sixth pick in the 2010 draft to sign Marshall, but they may now be willing to make a trade offer for his services.

Marshall posted his third consecutive 100-catch season last year, with 101 catches, and made his second straight trip to the Pro Bowl.  Included in those 101 catches were an NFL-record 21 receptions against the Indianapolis Colts.  He also scored a career high 10 touchdowns in 2010.

In spite of all his accomplishments on the field, Marshall also carries a significant amount of baggage off the field.  He has had several run-ins with the law and several meetings with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his off-field behavior.  He has also been at odds with head coach Josh McDaniels.

Marshall was suspended for the 2008 season opener following a series of domestic disputes involving a former girlfriend.  He was with teammate Darrent Williams when he was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2007.  Last summer Marshall was suspended by the team for throwing a tantrum during training camp and again for the last game of the season for being late for treatment for a hamstring injury the team felt he was exaggerating.

Marshall was unhappy with his contract last year, which paid him $2.2 million on the last year of his rookie deal.  He is also unhappy with the tender offer this year.

A team spokesman would only confirm that Marshall signed his contract and Marshall's agent has not returned calls seeking comment.  A trade is expected to be worked out at some point before the start of the 2010 season.

Wow! I guess when you put it that way, there is no chance for redemption. You may be right overall, especially with the girlfriend/wife violence, but I think it is a bit of stretch to put that drive-by completely on him. Still, you do make a good point, Bob. :)

Greg, I'm not sure how you missed that fact that Marshall is a scumbag woman-beater? Or how about the fact that he just happened to be in a car onvolved in a drive-by shooting. Somehow I have avoided both of those problems so far in my life, Marshall has not. No, this is a bad human being we're talking about. And who is this "B-Dub" character? He's sounds very cool.

Come on B-Dub, when was the last time Marshall was in trouble off the field? Seems like all the problems from last year came from McDaniels--Just ask the former defensive coordinator who was responsible for the only highlights of Denver's team last year and now works for another team due to his own choosing. Bowlen is losing his mind, and Josh is killing the team. Hopefully, Marshall goes somewhere the coach doesn't second guess him when he is the only reciever on the team....
