In a rematch of the 2006 title game, the Boston College Eagles avenged their 2-1 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers to claim their Frozen Four fortune establishing their college hockey dynasty taking their third NCAA title since 2001.

Before a record crowd of 37,592 fans at Ford Field on Saturday, the Eagles scored four goals in the third period, and BC captain Matt Price had an empty-net goal less than five minutes on the clock sealing the deal on the national title. It’s the third straight year a team from Boston won the coveted NCAA title, with the Eagles winning this year and in 2008, and Boston University in 2009.

The Most Outstanding Player award went to BC’s senior assistant captain Ben Smith, who scored a goal in the final, plus scored two goals and two assists in the semifinal game against Miami. Sophomore Cam Atkinson scored twice in the final, giving him 30 goals and the national scoring lead for the season. BC goaltender John Muse had 19 saves and posted the shutout to his NCAA tournament play, a perfect 8-0.

Wisconsin senior forward Blake Geoffrion became the first Badgers player to win the Hobey Baker and only the 10th Wisconsin player to be named a finalist. Blake led the WCHA in goals with 19, and was named to the All-WCHA First Team. He was the 56th pick in the 2006 NHL entry draft, selected by the Nashville Predators.

The Badgers defense featured skilled defensemen and Hobey Baker finalist, Brendan Smith, who tied a Frozen Four record for assists on Thursday night setting up five of Wisconsin’s eight goals in their victory over the RIT Tigers. The Badgers won a national title four years ago
