Agassi Admits to Being Out of Line at Charity Event

Andre Agassi told ESPN.com that he was "out of line" and apologized for poking fun at Pete Sampras during a charity tennis match last week.
Agassi and Sampras were wearing microphones while playing in the Hit for Haiti charity event at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California last Friday, when the exchange took place.
During the match Sampras imitated Agassi's pigeon-toed walk, which drew laughs from the crowd. Agassi responded by making a remark about Sampras being cheap. Agassi wrote a book where he chided Sampras for being a poor tipper. Sampras responded with a high, hard serve that caused Agassi to duck.
Although no cross words were spoken, neither Agassi nor Sampras showed up at the post-match news conference.
"It was out of line," Agassi said on Monday. "It was inappropriate. We were all having fun. I was trying to be comedic. I was trying to get past it, but Pete didn't really let me get past it. He didn't really roll with it. I've texted Pete to ask him if I can apologize in person."
"The joke fell flat and I'm sorry," Agassi added. "My hope was that the night was still enjoyable." The event raised $1 million to aid relief efforts in the earthquake-ravaged island nation.
