Ocho For Ohno
Written by Christopher Corazon, Saturday February 27 2010
Apolo Ohno received his eighth career medal, the most decorated medalist in the Winter Olympics for the United States.
Ohno won a gold and a bronze in 2002, then a gold, silver, and a bronze in 2006. With three more medals in Vancouver, Ohno achieved a total of 8 and passed Bonnie Blair for the most medals by a U.S. athlete in the Winter Olympics.
Ohno had an opportunity for a ninth medal, and could have finished with a bronze in the short track. But a judge ruled that he interfered with another skater and Ohno did not medal in the event. Ohno was able to receive his 8th medal in the relay later on Friday.
Ohno is also known for winning the Dancing With The Stars competition in 2007. He had a relatively late start in the sport of speed skating, becoming interest in it after watching the 1994 Olympics. He has gone from that late start to the U.S. athlete with the most medals from the Winter Games.
