76ers dump Dalembert, and move up in the draft?

Dalembert to Bobcats, eh?

As I sit in front of my computer in agony at the thought of Samuel Dalembert starting another season as the #1 center on the 76ers roster, I can't help but brainstorm to think of ways to dump him and his contract. My prayers might have been answered by an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Today, the Inquirer reports that on pcpsports.com, it has been reported a possible trade between the 76ers and the Bobcats. The trade would be C Samuel Dalembert and the 17th overall pick to the Bobcats for C Nazr Mohammed, PF/SF Vladimir Radmanovic and the 12th overall pick.  The article reports that after contracts are exchanged that the Sixers would take on two more million dollars to their payroll.

Hallelujah!

I can only hope this rumor comes to fruition, because it is time to ship that lanky Canadian as far away as possible. The former Seton Hall product has proven to be underwhelming in his career in Philadelphia. Touted for his tremendous upside and athleticism, Dalembert has under performed. Why the Charlotte Bobcats want him on their team is besides me. But if they want him, they can have him.

Dalembert’s career numbers lack potency. 8.1 points per game, 8.1 rebounds a game, 1.9 blocks per game, and a 68% free throw shooter, doesn’t exactly tantalize the imagination when working Sammy into a new offense.

Why should the 76ers do this deal? One, the Sixers move up in the draft, and could potentially draft a player that can contribute right away. The 76ers GM, Ed Stefanski, would be allotted more choices in the team’s first round pick. But does he use the pick to replace Dalembert with another new big man, like B.J. Mullens from Ohio State, or does he sure up the selection of Ty Lawson, UNC, or Eric Maynor, VCU? Also, keep in mind, PF/C Jason Smith comes back from a season ending injury in 2008. Two, Nazr replaces Theo Ratliff’s bench role and Radmanovic stretches the floor with his three point shooting ability, as well as, gives the 76ers a formidable big man line-up with 6 foot 11 inch Vlady at small forward.

Regardless of the player we would receive in the draft due to the trade, and the additions of two role players, trading Dalembert is addition by subtraction. His weak team defense and inability to have be an offensive presence makes this trade an easy one to pull the trigger on. If I was Ed Stefanski, I make this trade before the Bobcats GM can finish making the offer.

Good luck, Ed. Alveterzane Sammy!
