Wizards 4th quarter woes continue

The Wizards lost by 15 to the 76ers when they met last week, and they fell again to Philadelphia on Friday, in a disappointing 109-103 loss. The Wizards move to 4-20 on the season, 18.5 games back and last place in the East. Antawn Jamison warmed up and said he was good to go against the 76ers Friday, even with the sprained thumb suffered Wednesday versus the Pistons, and still had his 16th double-double of the season. With a lot of up and down the court throughout the game, Philadelphia kept pace with the Wizards even without Elton Brand, who suffered a shoulder separation in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. The 76ers then outshot Washington in the 4th quarter, 25-17, to seal the deal. The Wizards were out-hustled down the stretch, committing 7 turnovers in the 4th quarter alone, and Philadelphia’s quick defense stole several lazy passes throughout the game.

As for individual player efforts, Lou Williams came off the bench for Philadelphia with some precision shooting and plenty of hustle, scoring a career-high 26, after tying his career-high of 25 Wednesday against the Bucks. Consistent play from Andre Miller, Thaddeus Young, and Andre Iguodala, kept Philadelphia solid throughout.

For the Wizards, Nick Young came flying off the bench with 12 in the second quarter, and Mike James, recently acquired from New Orleans, had 16 points, including 4-5 3-pointers. The Wizards are struggling with various issues, Brendan Haywood and Etan Thomas inactive, Dee Brown (waived), Oleksiy Pecherov sitting on the bench, and the loss of Antonio Daniels to the New Orleans Hornets.

The Wizards face an almost certain loss in a tough game Sunday against Dallas, and if Coach Tapscott can’t find a formula to stop Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, and the rest of the Dallas arsenal, that will be 6 losses in a row. The Wizards are 1-9 on the road which is where they’ll face Charlotte and then the formidable LeBron James on Christmas Day, and if it gets to 8 in a row, Ed Tapscott may just live up to his interim status, temporary.
