Arena Football 1 is an arena football league founded in 2009 to replace the defunct Arena Football League (AFL) which closed its doors after 22 years following the 2008 season.

The league was formed with 16 teams with existing teams from the AFL and arenafootball2, which was played from 2000 through 2009, and one team from the American Indoor Football Association, and several new teams or markets.

Despite the crossover from the AFL and af2, the league is an entirely new entity and not a merger of the AFL and af2. The league's first season will be this year and just as the AFl and af2, will run from spring through summer.

The league will play by the same rules the AFL and af2 played by in their respective final seasons. Arena Football 1 league offices are headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The teams in the AF1 are:

Alabama Vipers - Huntsville, Alabama

Arizona Rattlers - Phoenix, Arizona

Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings - Bossier City, Louisiana

Central Valley Coyotes - Fresno, California

Chicago Rush - Chicago, Illinois

Cleveland Gladiators - Cleveland, Ohio

Dallas Vigilantes - Dallas, Texas

Iowa Barnstormers - Des Moines, Iowa

Jacksonville Sharks - Jacksonville, Florida

Milwaukee Iron - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Orlando Predators - Orlando, Florida

Spokane Shock - Spokane, Washington

Tampa Bay Storm - Tampa, Florida

Tulsa Talons - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Utah Blaze - Salt Lake City, Utah

I'm glad to see AF back, and hopefully it'll be picked up by the local broadcasters (again). If I could change one thing about it, it'd be the camera angles for the tv broadcasts. The walls on the sidelines sometimes caused players to "disappear" behind the obstruction. There were some good rivalries between teams - particularly the Storm and the Predators who are separated by only an hour's drive. One good thing about the AF1 is that it will be a good alternative to the littany of basketball, baseball, golf, and NASCAR racing. On second thought, it might just get smothered by those four bigger sports and fade away (again).

Oh it figures that a Philadelphia team, the Soul, wins a football Championship (2008 Arena League Champs) and then immediately goes out of business, never to return. If that's how it happens I hope the Eagles win a Super Bowl and then go away and I'm finally free of Andy Reid and the entire Eagles front office of Douchebags. Then we can get an expansion team or steal another city's team and start over. Oh what am I saying? I must be delusional. The Eagles will NEVER win a Championship with Andy Reid running the team.
