Should Kurt Warner Be in the Hall of Fame?

Since Kurt Warner has officially retired from football on Friday, the question will arise as the whether he should be in the pro football Hall of Fame.

I am sure that this question will be debated all over America by ESPN, Sports radio, newspapers, and message boards across the sporting world.

In 12 seasons in the NFL, Warner finished his career with 2,666 completions in 4,070 attempts for 208 touchdowns and 128 interceptions. His .655 passing percentage is one of the best in NFL history. His 93.7 passer rating is the third best in the history of the game and his 102.8 passer rating in the playoffs and Super Bowl is second only to the Packers Bart Starr, whose rating was 104.8.

Warner, went from grocery store stock boy to Arena League player to, to NFL Europe, to Super Bowl MVP. He set NFL on fire and has a story that movie executives will be drooling over.

"I don't know if anybody's ever played the game who could see things as quick as he could see things, and react with the ball as quickly as he can”, former Warner coach Mike Martz said. “He redefined, to me, how quarterbacks can handle blitzes."

According to former coach Dick Vermeil, Warner had two key assets that separated him from most every other quarterback.

"Number one, his accuracy," Vermeil said. "If you're not accurate, you're never a superstar. So he had to have instinctive accuracy. Number two, unbelievable poise under pressure. Almost the bigger the moment, the bigger the game he played."

Current pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks have already put their two cents in on to whether Warner should be in the hall of fame.

“I believe a player is a Hall of Fame player if you can’t tell the story of the history of the game without mentioning that player,” said Cowboys great Troy Aikman. “In my opinion, no account of the NFL can be accurately given without discussing Kurt Warner’s impact on the game.”

“I think he deserves it. I don’t know if I’ve seen a more accurate passer, and he generally didn’t make too many mistakes,” said Chiefs great Len Dawson. “The tag on him was he never got the opportunity. He was playing Arena Football and stuff like that. But once he got the opportunity, he took full advantage of it.”

“I think he’s deserving. To be a great quarterback, you have to understand the game, make adjustments by the second, by the minute, by the game,” said Vikings great Fran Tarkenton. “You have to take over the running of the game. And Kurt Warner has been able to do that.”

You look at what Warner has accomplished in the NFL, his statistics, and his records, and the answer to the question has to be an unequivocal YES! Kurt Warner belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Now the only question that should be asked is; which team should he represent, the St. Louis Rams or the Arizona Cardinals?

YES. Without a doubt, Warner should be on the hall of fame ballot. He may have not thrown for as many yards as a Brett Favre or Dan Marino but then again, he didn't get his first start until the age of 28. He has three of highest passing yardage games in Super Bowl history and he took 2 teams to the Super Bowl who were previously considered laughinstocks (Rams and the Cardinals). People are quick to say that anyone could put up his numbers with the cast around him but you can't put a value on accuracy or how he he seemed to have a knack for picking up opposing teams' blitzes. Kurt Warner should and will be in the hall of fame

Warner is a slam-dunk Hall of Famer in my mind. He's got the numbers and he's got the ring. I don't see how anybody could make a case against him. As for the NFL Hall of Fame, I don't think players go in as a member of a specific team like baseball. Baseball does it because of the hat for each players bust.

Nolan, no doubt in my mind that Kurt is Hall of Fame bound. The numbers speak for themselves and I can't think of a quarterback in the last 10 years who could take the punishment he has and just kept throwing the football with amazing accuracy. Congratulations Kurt on a storied career! Dick
