Katie Ryckman – Seattle Mist

Around last October, I saw a clip on the local news about Seattle Mist tryouts. To be honest, they didn’t portray the ladies in the best light athletically, so I didn’t take them too seriously.

A while later, a friend and I were talking about this new Lingerie Football League and we decided to read up on it a bit. As soon as I read they were paid, I decided I needed to keep an open mind and go try out. I’ve modeled a bit on and off since middle school and played rugby for 6 years, so I figured this might just be up my alley.

Now, as Running Back/Wide Receiver/Safety/Special Teams for the Seattle Mist, I’ve had to learn a lot about football in a short period of time. With a background in rugby, I’ve been able to pick up certain concepts quickly and I’ve never feared contact. In fact, tackling and being tackled are two of my favorite parts of the game. I just know that no matter what, I’m the hammer not the nail.

I was named MVP of the Denver vs Seattle game after scoring 3 of our 4 touchdowns and at least 1 of the conversions for the win. Considering it was snowing, 12 degrees, outdoors, and we couldn’t feel our bodies (let alone our hands), it was amazing that we were even able to finish the game.

I’ve found that fans can really make or break a game. When your fans are pumped, loud, and engaged, the game is much more fun to both watch and play. I’m definitely looking forward to an intense LA crowd next week! I think our teams will be a good match for each other, which will make for a great game. Plus, the after party is going to be amazing!

I found the game tape and watched it - all of it. It was 12F and snowing and the players were clad only in skimpy 2-piece uniforms, helmets, and pads. The ladies weren't deterred by the weather conditions and played hard the entire time. The spectators were in full ski masks, heavy coats, and snow pants and the coaches looked like they were about to run the Iditarod. And everyone was enthusiastic about the game. I can see why Mrs. Rykman won MVP - outstanding game and she went full tilt every time she was on the field. There were a few easy passes dropped near the end by several players, but I guess when you can't feel your hands, that will happen. :)

I'm amazed at the way these girls go at it. Truly dedicated football players and genuine professional athletes. There was even a game played where it actually snowed. That is worthy of my respect alone. I'm hooked on the LFL now and hope it goes from strength to strength. Katie, looking forward to your future reports on here.

I was about to say the same thing. I had to read it again to be sure. Outside, 12 degrees and snowing!?! No one can question your toughness and dedication. True professional athletes, each and every one of you.

Wait a tick. You were playing in 12F temps in two-piece uniforms? That's hardcore football! I know that, playing a contact sport, everything hurts a little more in the cold. By the way, your son is adorable, and I have to give you props for looking so good after childbirth. Good luck with your season and start working on your next report!
