Top Ten Most Annoying Sports Fans II

Nolan Thomas Written by Nolan Thomas, Friday May 29 2009

As much as I may agree with some of B-Dubs original choices, I may add that I do not heartily agree with most of them. Of course, I will explain my reasoning for these as I go through the list. I will list B-Dubs choices first and why I rebut or agree with that choice. If I disagree, I will then list my choice in italics and underlined for that particular spot and then explain why. I also did not include bandwagon fans as true fans so the “Faux” fans technically do not count to begin with because they are not real fans.

And heeeeeeeeere we go!

10. Los Angeles Lakers Fans

Personally, I cannot really argue with this one considering all the TV and movie stars that follow the Lakers, or how the networks just love to show them every other minute. It does get very aggravating. However, I have to say that that is not the main reason they made my list. For me, it is the obnoxious fans that worship the obnoxious jerk. They all think Kobe is the best ever and worship him to no end. This alone is ridiculous because any basketball fan knows that Michael Jordan is the best that ever was and ever will be.

9. New York Mets Fans

As much as I hate the Mets and their fans; I have to disagree with this one. Yes, they deserve to be on this list, but I will get into that a bit later.

9. Oakland Raiders Fans

To me, fans that dress up every Sunday as if it is Halloween and try to act mean and tough when their team is nothing of the sort gives them this spot on my list. The owner, who wants to run things his way, which is the same way he ran the team 30 years ago, has not figured out that that does not work anymore and is running the team into submission. Fans acting like bullies when the team is playing like the guy they used to throw into a locker and dunk his head into the toilet shows the true mentality of the Raider Nation.

8. Chicago Cubs Fans

Being the Cubs fan that I am, and have been my whole life, I definitely disagree with this one. In addition, B-Dubs argument does not hold water. Yes, the Cubs have had some pretty lousy teams in the last 100 years, no doubt about it. Moreover, yes, Cubs fans are extremely passionate and loyal to their team, win or lose. In addition, I agree that using a curse as an excuse is pretty far-fetched and unrealistic. However, the fans do not blame the last 100 years, (actually 64 since the curse was supposedly put on the Cubs) for the many years of losing seasons for the loveable losers. Cub’s fans do not use the curse as an excuse when talking about the really bad teams that were terrible from start to finish. Cub’s fans only use the curse for the far and few Cubs teams that were actually good and had a legitimate shot at winning it all. In 1969, (why I hate the Mets) 1984, 1989, 1998, 2003, 2006 and 2007 the Cubs had good teams, really good teams and something freaky and unexplainable always happened to knock them out of the playoffs and again keep them out of the World Series. For a more detailed explanation, please see my previous article on the Curse of the Goat. http://playerpress.com/articles/the-curse-of-the-goat

8. Cleveland Browns Fans

Any fan group that would throw battery-packed snowballs at the opposing teams players and at the referees needs to be on this list. Not too mention other abnormal and deviant behavior from the so called Dawg Pound. They actually have a jail at the stadium where the Browns play. Most stadiums might have a “detention” room, but an actual jail? That says a lot right there.

7. New York Yankee Fans

I agree to disagree with this one. Here is why!

7. New York Fans in General

From the Yankees, the Mets, the Giants, the Jets, and the Knicks they all have the same attitude, are rude to opposing teams and their fans, and not all, but most of them think that their teams are better then everyone else. In addition, New York fans boo their own teams more then any other fans I have ever heard when their team is not playing up to their standards. They expect to win a championship every year and when they don’t, the fans turn on them in a heartbeat.

6. Los Angeles Dodgers Fans

I agree with this on the one fact alone that they come late and leave early regardless of the score, the situation, or how well the team is playing. Nuff Said!

5. Tamp Bay Rays Fans

I disagree with this one because the Rays have had only ONE winning season throughout their whole history. You should expect some bandwagon jumpers and an increase in fans as the team continues to win and the fans start to really believe in the team.

5. Chicago White Sox Fans

To me, White Sox fans are extremely aggravating. First of all, they despise the Cubs, Cubs fans, and anything and everything that has to do with the Cubs. In addition, they hate them with such a passion that I cannot explain. Sox fans are more worried about beating the Cubs and having a better record then they are with what the Sox are actually doing in their own league. They consider the Cubs their biggest rivals. To me this is just ignorance. It is a different league and absolutely no relevance except in head-to-head meetings. In addition, any fans that blow up disco records in center field with TNT between games of a double header or beat up an opposing team’s first base coach during a game deserve to be on this list.

4. Florida Marlins Fans

I disagree with this one as well. You can’t blame the people in Miami for not showing up to ball games. The city is filled with either old people or people who would rather party on the strip in South Beach and do cocaine then go to a baseball game. Miami has never been a baseball town and it never will be regardless of how well the team is doing.

4. Atlanta Braves Fans

Currently living in Atlanta, I have seen these so called fans upfront and personal. I remember first moving here from Chicago in 1996, the year the Braves were in the World Series. The following year, I went to a game when the Cubs were in town. There were more Cubs fans there then there were Braves fans and the stadium was half-empty. In addition, this was just one season removed from a World Series. You would think the place would have been packed to the brim. I also was given a hard time by some Braves fans concerning my Cubs garb. That same year, get this, for a playoff game, on the day of the game mind you, I was able to walk up to the ticket window and purchase tickets for the game 20 minutes before the first pitch. To me that is unbelievable.

3. Boston Red Sox Fans

Another agree to disagree option here. See below!

3. Boston Fans in General

Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics all rolled into one. They are all the Wicked Hahd annoying fans, it just happens in different stadiums, parks and arenas and during different seasons. They do not act any differently regardless of what sport they are watching. They are rude to opposing teams, their fans, and they feel that their stuff does not stink. Boston fans are loud, brash, obnoxious, cocky and self-assured without a doubt.

2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Fans

Oh B-Dub, your hatred for Notre Dame is unbelievable. First of all, you say that the movie “Rudy” was a girlie movie and one of the worst sports movies of all time. That shows true passionate hatred right there if you ask me. However I know you are not alone with your dislike for the Irish. Anyone who is not a ND fan probably hates them just as much as you do. Nevertheless, let me explain a few things for you and all of the other anti-ND fans out there. There are a lot of non-Irish Notre Dame fans in the world. Yes, I am Irish, but that is not why I am a fan, not even close. I grew up in Chicago and there are absolutely no major colleges in the area besides Northwestern and Notre Dame. And although Northwestern has shown some respectability the past decade, for years and years they could have been beaten by the local high school team. Personally, I genetically became a ND fan. My father, my uncles, my cousins, and my friend’s families were all ND fans. However, as far as the fans themselves, you say they are bad fans just because they are ND fans not because of what type of fan they are. I have attended numerous games in South Bend and the fans are knowledgeable, treat everyone with respect, including opposing teams fans. They do not deserve to be on this list just because you hate Notre Dame in general. In addition, they have a beautiful campus and just because it is not loaded with bars, you call it lame. That statement alone is lame my friend as a reason to put their fans on this list.

2. Philadelphia Eagles Fans

Philadelphia is the only place where coincident love-hate relationships for a football team is enduring and more fickle than in Boston or New York.  Maybe the fact that the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl, and prior to last season with the Phillies, no team in the city had won a championship for 24 years has forced the fans into insanity. In addition, I have to bring up the episode of the Eagles fans booing and throwing snowballs at Santa Claus. The fact that Veterans stadium has an actual court and a judge in order to bring unruly fans to trial immediately says pretty much all that needs to be said.

1. Dallas Cowboys Fans

I disagree as your main reason are the bandwagon jumpers and the Faux fans. To me, these are not real fans to begin with. Yes, I hate the Cowboys with a passion, almost as much as I hate the Packers, but that is not a reason to call out the fans.

1. English Soccer Fans

I know B-Dub did not include soccer because most Americans do not give a damn, but this is without a doubt the worst fanbase in all of sports. I cannot think of one thing in this great country of ours that even comes close to the chaos that occurs by the fans during English soccer matches. American fans would not even be able to fathom going to a game and witnessing 39 people being killed as it did in 1985 when the fans rioted at a soccer match. This was obviously the worst instance, but it is not the only incident that has happened in English soccer history.  There have been many bloody soccer riots that have haunted English soccer history. Besides the aspect of the racism and disorderly behavior that is common at the games in England, things can get very frightful and bloodthirsty outside of the stadium hours after the match is even over. The overall violent environment of soccer fans puts a sinister disgrace on the lifestyle all together.

Hahahahaha. We Eagle fans probably are annoying to other fans, but we are in no way shape or form the worst fans out there. Eagles fans, booing or not, are some of the best fans - hands down. What other team without a superbowl ring has a fanbase like ours? Do you know how friggin hard it is to get an Eagles ticket?! LMAO

Hallelujah...Eagles fans are obnoxious. I had the misfortune of sitting in front of the lone row of Eagles fans at a Giants game and had to sit through 3 hours of their profane, obnoxious, juvenile taunts...and they were losing by three TDs! And don't get me started on Flyers fans. I've been to Philly several times to see my Devils against the Flyers, and those fans are not just obnoxious, but also ignorant. I think Philly fans just go to games to take out their frustrations from their unhappy lives. And if B-Dub thinks Brian Dawkins is anything more than a headhunting cheap-shot artist, he's apparently not even watching Eagles games.

Thank GOD somebody mention the Philly fans because you cannot have a list of the worst fans of all team without them on it. When people talk about the the worst fans, Philly fans tops everybody's list. Now, I will disagree with a couple of your other choices. First, with Braves fans, I don't think they are that bad, they just don't care. If the Braves aren't in it, they don't go to the games and for the last few years, the they haven't sniffed at the playoffs, plus that's a football town but Braves fans are loyal and they stuck with them when they were terrible for years and for that they deserve some credit. Second, Dallas Cowboy fans. To me like you said that's more of a dislike for the team then fans. Cowboy fans can be cocky, but they too are loyal to their team. I have never heard a single incident involving Cowboy fans.
