Halleluiah! Kornheiser Leaving MNF!

Tony Kornheiser, the most obnoxious announcer to ever sit in the booth for Monday Night Football is finally, and to the joy of millions, leaving the booth for MNF.

I will celebrate this occasion for many Monday nights to come. This guy made me more miserable then even Howard Cosell ever did.

Tony Kornheiser said that his fear of flying was the biggest reason for his decision. However, I really do not care what his reason was, just that he had a reason to quit. Someone up there really likes football fans.

Kornheiser will continue to appear on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," and he is happy that he does not have to get unto an airplane.

Kornheiser was just terrible in the booth. His biased opinions, bad jokes, and all around terrible commentary concerning things that were not even relevant to the football game at hand were just not worth the three and half hours of listening to him.

Sometimes, usually most of the time, hearing his whinny screeching voice made me cringe regardless of what dribble was actually coming out of his mouth.

Finally, after three long never-ending seasons, Kornhoser is gone. He will not be able to interrupt the guys who actually want to talk about football and the action on the field. He will not be able to add ridiculous quips concerning things that have absolutely no relevance to the game at hand. He will no longer talk about Brett Favre more then even John Madden did on MNF.  We will no longer have to listen to his bad jokes about his bald head anymore either.

The torture is finally over, the misery of it all has finally come to an end! I feel rejuvenated, blessed, and exhilarated all at once. Good things have finally come to the world of football. Halleluiah Halleluiah Halleluiah!  Three years of torture on Monday Nights is finally over.

Kornheiser had this to say about his leaving the booth, “I am totally grateful for the MNF opportunity that I truly enjoyed the last three seasons. I feel we got better each year. My fear of planes is legendary and sadly true. When I looked at the upcoming schedule it was the perfect storm that would’ve frequently moved me from the bus to the air. I kept looking at the schedule the past month and wanted to find a way to quietly extricate myself. If I could handpick a replacement of a football guy, I would cast a net and drag in Jon Gruden. He is the two things you most want — smart and funny — and has the two things I don’t — good hair and a tan. I love PTI and am looking forward to continuing to yammer and yodel with Wilbon until the end of time.”

Therefore, Kornheiser leaves the booth just as he came in, with bad jokes about his bald head and bad skin. Something’s never change.

The best news of all is that former Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden will in fact, be taking his place and joining ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The dynamic and fiery “Chucky” as he was so fondly called, will join Ron Jaworski and Mike Tirico in the booth this season.

Gruden will be an outstanding replacement, although compared to Korny, anyone would have been a good replacement. Gruden knows football, is passionate about the game, is full of energy, has a good sense of humor, and will most likely share some of his keen insight of the game of football.

Gruden led Tampa Bay to the 2003 Super Bowl title but was fired this past season after the Bucs lost four straight and missed the playoffs. He worked as a guest analyst this year during the draft with the NFL Network and was quite entertaining as well.

"To join Mike and Jaws in the booth and to work alongside this top-notch team is going to be a real thrill," Gruden said.

Gruden will make his debut with ESPN with a preseason game on Aug. 13, a Super Bowl rematch between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Gruden was an NFL head coach the past 11 seasons, with the Buccaneers from 2002-08, and the Oakland Raiders from 1998-01. He had a 100-85 record, and led his teams to five division titles.

Gruden’s best season came in 2002, when Tampa Bay went 12-4 and then beat the Raiders 48-21 in the Super Bowl. Gruden was 38 at the time and was the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl.

All I can say is that Gruden will be great in the MNF booth. I clearly look forward now to listening to the game on Monday nights instead of hanging on to the remote with my finger on the mute button for the whole game.

Welcome aboard Chucky!

B-Dub, I feel like I just kicked a drug habit. Kornhoser was the worst and extremely aggravating. So which one was he, Beavis or Butthead? heh heh!

Damn Nolan, you sound like a guy who just kicked a drug habit. I personally always thought of Bevis and Butthead when I heard Kornheiser's name, although I would think "Cornholio"....heh-heh, heh-heh.

This is the best news I have heard in months! Kornhoser was such a pain in the butt. I really hated that guy. Gruden should be excellent as well. First good thing ESPN has done in years!
