Q&A WITH FOOTBALL FREE AGENT LEROY A. STRICKLAND III
Q: What is the fondest memory of your college career and/or semi-pro?
My forest memory would be my first official collegiate start. It was my sophomore season, and I had stayed on campus all summer to make sure that I was in shape. I grabbed a program before the game and there it was in big blue writing “Starting Tight End for the Wasps 6’2, 235lbs sophomore Leroy A Strickland III.
Q: Who was the toughest competitor you faced in college and/or semi-pro?
My toughest opponent was a Fullback and an Offensive Tackle both playing for Bridgewater College. The Fullback was my size at the time, and the OT was an All-Conference stud. They ran power and trap all day long. We lost to them every year.
Q: What was your best game in college or semi-pro football?
My best game was my first game as a Defensive End. We were playing Maryville and I had an awesome game. Several tackles for losses, basically in on a lot of tackles. It was awesome.
Q: What was your favorite NFL team growing up?
My favorite team growing up, and still is, are the Washington Redskins. I was raised in Landover Maryland so it was only natural to fall in love with the home team.
Q: Who was your favorite player?
My favorite NFL player has to be Shannon Sharpe: his determination, back story, small school experience, work ethic, underdog start. All of those things put him the Hall of Fame. Love dude!
Q: Which current NFL player most resembles you?
I would say Courtney Upshaw, quickness and power off the edge with the ability to drop back in coverage and place our hands in the dirt.
Q: What would your former teammates say about you?
They would say, “Leroy is an awesome guy off the field and on: hardworking with a lot of integrity” I hope :)
Q: What are you presently doing as far as training?
At the moment I am on my toning phase of my workouts, a lot of reps with light to medium weight. I am still doing hill runs and agility drills.
Q: What is your favorite combine drill (40, Shuttle, 3-Cone, Bench, Broad, Vert)?
I enjoy the three cone drill, for me it’s like a race with myself. Constantly trying to explode quicker either side to beat my last cone.
Q: Why do you believe you have been flying below the radar as a football player?
Honestly, I believe that I did a horrible job marketing myself, staying in shape, and not getting invited to any all-star games. I wanted the success but didn’t put enough effort towards the process.
Q: What do you want to do besides football?
I want to be an analysis for either a federal agency or a private sector. I am currently enrolled in Cappella University (online) M.A program studying Data Mining and Analytics.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
I love going to the movies and spending time with my family. I’m a homebody, so if I’m not at the gym or for, I’m home with my family trying to decide which movie we’re going to see.
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
The first would be my grandmother, she died when I was sixteen and I would love for her to see the man that I’ve become. Second would be Malcolm X, I would love to hear his opinion on a number of things happening in today’s society. Last would be Warren Buffet, I believe that he has mastered the economic realm of the world. I would ask for advice in regards to wealth establishment and preservation.
