Hello again Player Press followers, after a long hiatus due to my health, I have gained back the urge to write and share my biased sports opinions with you all.
First of all, let’s talk Cubbies.
The Chicago Cubs have put together a team of extremely talented youngsters, led by first baseman Anthony Rizzo, that are winning. Rookies Kris Bryant, Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber have this team going places.
Of course Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta in the rotation helps too.
Now granted, they show up on the cover of Sports Illustrated and proceed to lose four straight but when was the last time you were even talking about the Cubs in late August?
When was the last time the Cubs were hovering at 20 games over .500?
The Cubbies still have a shot at the playoffs and if they make it, Back To The Future’s Part II prediction just might come true. Well half of it anyway, they won’t be playing Miami in the World Series…….if they get there.
The NFL season is about to start and sadly, it looks like it may be a looooong season for the Chicago Bears.
They already have their top four receivers nursing injuries including number 1 draft pick Kevin White, who may be out for the year. So while it’s good news that Jay Cutler hasn’t thrown an interception yet, he’s running out of good targets to throw to. That really limits the offense in what it can do. Looks like running back Matt Forte is once again going to be a busy man this season.
Defensive linemen seem to be dropping like flies as well, and after two well improved showings in the first two preseason games, last night they once again looked a lot like last seasons open door policy defense.
I just hope new defensive minded head coach John Fox and defensive coordinator extraordinaire Vic Fangio have a better plan for the regular season because otherwise Aaron Rodgers is going to have another field day in Soldier Field on opening Sunday.
But strange things happen, players get hurt on every team, the ball bounces one way or the other, any given Sunday, any given season.......we shall see. I love football season!
