After being called up to “the show” after much anticipation, Chicago Cubs phenom prospect Javier Baez did not disappoint as his first Major League hit was a game winning home run in the 12th inning against the Colorado Rockies in Denver Tuesday night.
Baez, promoted from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, was 0-for-5 on the night with three strikeouts before hitting the 414 foot blast to right center. Counting his Triple-A homers, the young infielder has 24 homers this season.
Baez struck out in his first at-bat, grounded out to third in the fourth inning, struck out swinging in the sixth, lined out to right in the seventh and then struck out again in the 10th inning but the 12th was his time to shine.
"Everybody was going crazy, and telling me congrats," Baez said of the reception he got in the dugout after the 12th inning blast.
