Ernie Banks, the man known affectionately as “Mr. Cub” will grace the cover of Sports Illustrated this week in the publications annual “Where Are They Now” issue.
The article focuses on Banks love of the game of baseball and the Chicago Cubs, the only team the Hall of Fame shortstop/first baseman during his 19 years in the Major Leagues, 14 as an All-Star.
Banks was the player who gave Wrigley Field the “Friendly Confines” nickname and finished his career with 512 home runs, with Cubs records for games played (2,528), at-bats (9,421), extra-base hits (1,009), and total bases (4,706).
