Did Patriots Draft Brady’s Successor?

Will Brady be looking over his shoulder?

In the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night the New England Patriots drafted Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Patriots were not really in need of a quarterback so picking one in the second round only tells you that they feel it is time to start grooming Tom Brady’s eventual successor.

It also means that Ryan Mallett may have seen his last days in a Patriot’s uniform as they never have more than two quarterbacks on their roster in the regular season and I doubt they would risk losing Garoppolo by putting him on the practice squad.

With that in mind, it will give Garoppolo the opportunity to learn while being the back up for one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history.
