Bears Draft Cornerback Over Safety

Sometimes I just don’t understand what these guys are thinking.

With the 12th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday night the Chicago Bears picked cornerback Kyle Fuller out of Virginia Tech.

While Fuller is a very good corner, a safety would have been the smarter pick here. With Pro-Bowl cornerbacks Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings starting for the Bears, Fuller will most likely be regulated to special teams with the possibility of being the nickel corner. A number one pick should be expected to start from day one.

Both Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor were still available when the Bears picked and safety was a much bigger concern in my opinion. The Bears need another Mike Brown back there and these two highly regarded safeties were on the board with a chance for them to get one.

We’ll see what happens in round two, which should be either a defensive tackle or safety, but they blew the chance at a stud safety, something they desperately need.
