NFL Draft Chat with Arizona State linebacker Grandville Taylor.

Grandville Taylor is a hard hitting major special team’s contributor from Arizona State University who saw action in a total of 48 games, including every game from 2011-2013. Taylor was a former walk-on who earned a scholarship in 2012 and is a three time PAC-12 All Academic Honoree. While seeing his first significant action against Sacramento State last season Grandville tied for the team lead with four tackles while adding a 67-yard interception return and a fumble recovery.

Grandville could be a late round draft pick but could be a very valuable special team’s player and backup linebacker to any team which signs him.

Q: What is the fondest memory of your college career?

A: My fondest memory in college was when I had a chance to play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco, CA. Not only did I have a chance to play in front of my family and friends, but also I had the opportunity to have a great game in my hometown.

Q: Who was the toughest competitor you faced in college?

A: My toughest competitor was Shane Skov who I had a chance to compete with on Special Teams. He always seemed to bring his all and was quicker than he seemed.

Q: What was your best game in college?

A: The best game that I played in college was also the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco. After my teammate suffered an injury I had an opportunity to play a big role in the second half of the game, and I also played great on special teams.

Q: What colleges recruited you out of high school?

A: Coming out of high school I was overlooked possibly for many reasons. However, I ended up as a walk-on at Arizona State University and earned my scholarship from hard work and perseverance.

Q: What made you choose Arizona State?

A: I had got accepted into Boise State as well as a few other colleges when I graduated from high school. However, I chose ASU because after I visited the campus and had a chance to see how Arizona truly was I couldn’t resist.

Q: What was your favorite NFL team growing up?

A: Growing up in San Francisco I had a chance to be around the 49ners a lot, but I took a liking to the Chicago Bears because of my favorite player. In addition, I have always liked what the Bears stood for and how they played each and every game.

Q: Who was your favorite player?

A: Walter Payton.

Q: Which current NFL player most resembles you and the way you play the game?

A: A player that I have grown to resemble my game around is London Fletcher because of him being undersized in the NFL and being great through 17 years.

Q: What will distinguish you from other rookies?

A: Overall, my work ethic and mental toughness. From all of the experiences I had of being a walk-on at a division 1 football program and earning recognition is something I will be able to take with me to any team in the future.

Q: What would your former teammates say about you?

A: I think my former teammates will tell of the work ethic I have and the physicality that I have. I can see them speaking highly of the ability I have on the field, but possibly giving gratitude for the person I am off the field as well.

Q: What are you presently doing as far as training?

A: I am working out in Arizona mostly at Maximum fitness in Scottsdale, Arizona. I have been working to develop my abilities overall in effort to balance everything out and remain explosive.

Q: How do you think you did or will do on your pro-day?

A: I feel that pro-day did not go as well as I had worked for, although I gave it my all. I believe I did good in the field work and showed nice feet and hands.

Q: Which is your favorite event?

A: My favorite event was the fieldwork because it gave scouts and others a chance to look at my mobility, and for the most part how I worked in space.

Q: How was the agent selection process for you?

A: It was a journey just as all my other experiences at ASU. I did not have an agent until days after my pro-day and it was a blessing for the most part because I didn’t draw interest from any other agents. Before the season I had two agents willing to come and speak to me early and tell me that I possessed underrated talent, but our communication fell off during time.

Q: Why did you choose Michael Loeffler and Agency Athlete?

A: I could say that Michael and Agency Athlete chose me. I had a chance to meet with him and his team after my pro day and they all seemed very willing to do everything they could to help me in the next steps towards the NFL.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

1. Barack Obama because he is the first Black president and I would have a lot to ask in general about our country.
2. Alicia Keys as a date.
3. Michael Jordan because I could gain a lot of knowledge from him in an athletic point of view.

Q: What do you want to do besides football?

A: After I graduated I decided to take a few classes that involved some of the things I looked forward to in a career with being a counseling psychologist. It has always been apart of me to help other in life, and I feel that this field above all could help me be a resource from a sports point of view.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: I like to do plenty of things for fun, but the one I do most commonly is play chess. Above all, I just like the challenge it presents and how you have to always be steps ahead mentally.

Q: If you were a dog, what breed would you be and why?

A: I would have to say a Rottweiler because above anything they are loyal, protective, and very smart.

Q: What is your favorite sport besides football?

A: I have always been good at basketball too. In my younger days I saw myself as someone like Allen Iverson. Since then, I am more like a Ron Artest.
