NFL Draft chat with Eastern Illinois offensive lineman Alex Pierce.

Alex Pierce was the starting Right Guard for Eastern Illinois University who finished his college career without yielding any sacks his Senior year while starting for the most potent offense in the country. Alex is an outstanding football player and athlete who was part of the offensive line that was collectively named OVC Player of the week. Alex has received many accolades during his college football career and provided the protection that contributed to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo winning the Walter Payton Award as the FCS’s Top Player. Alex has developed a great deal of flexibility through his ability to pull as a guard and work against a variety of defensive fronts. He is said to have crazy flexibility and mobility for someone of his size. With his determination and focus on the field and his belief of never giving up he will contribute to his success in the future.

Alex is definitely on a few NFL teams radar and because of his experience and talent as an offensive lineman will most likely be drafted mid to late rounds in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Q: What is the fondest memory of your college career?

A: My redshirt junior year when we beat Southeast Missouri. It meant that we won the OVC Conference Title and went from being one of the worst teams in our league to one of the elite.

Q: Who was the toughest competitor you faced in college?

A: The first game I started was against Iowa and their entire starting defensive line that year ended up playing in the NFL

Q: What was your best game in college?

A: I’m not sure.  Maybe University of Central Kansas my redshirt junior year, or San Diego state my senior year.

Q: What colleges recruited you out of high school?

A: University of Cincinnati, Ball State, and Northern Illinois University

Q: What made you choose Eastern Illinois?

A: I had a great relationship with my recruiter and the offensive line coach.

Q: What was your favorite NFL team growing up?

A: The Green Bay Packers.

Q: Who was your favorite player?

A: Brett Favre.

Q: Which current NFL player most resembles you and the way you play the game?

A: Alex Boone.

Q: What will distinguish you from other rookies?

A: My work ethic. I will not give up.

Q: What would your former teammates say about you?

A: They would say that I was a consistent player and an extremely hard worker that lead by example.

Q: What are you presently doing as far as training?

A: I was training through St. Vincent’s Sports Performance where they put us up in the Embassy Suites. We were working out 2-3 times a day and fed a personalized diet. Since that has ended, I have been working out on my own either at home or at Eastern Illinois.

Q: How do you think you did or will do on your pro-day?

A: I did ok, but definitely not pleased with my results; I know I am capable of performing better.

Q: Which is your favorite event?

A: I enjoy position work the most. Speaking as an offensive lineman, I feel like a lot of the numbers are for show. You can have the best 40 yard time, but how is that useful when you go up against a 300+ pound defensive tackle one-on-one?

Q: How was the agent selection process for you?

A: It was definitely interesting, but I am very happy with the one I have and thankful he found me.

Q: Why did you choose Michael Loeffler and Agency Athlete?

A: Michael had contacted my parents during the season and shown interest in me. I didn’t get to meet him until after the season, but I liked him a lot. I thought he was the most honest and straight forward agent I met. Having someone that is honest about my future and not going feed me a bunch of junk means a lot to me. Plus my parents both really liked him, so that definitely played a major roll as well.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

My number one would probably be my grandfather who passed away my senior year of high school. He was a big inspiration to my life in how tough he was and he meant a lot to me. I would like to be able to share what I have accomplished over the years and everything that has happened since he has passed.

My second would be Vince Lombardi; he was one tough guy and one of the most influential people in the history of the sport.

I would also enjoy meeting General Patton.  He was a great leader and never backed down from a fight.

Q: What do you want to do besides football?

A: I would love to go into strength and conditioning at any level or something dealing with business.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: To be completely honest. Football is the number one thing I do for fun. To me, it has never been a job or work it has always been fun and I’ve loved playing every day. When you’re out there on the field, it’s just a special feeling; how fortunate I am to be there and a feeling of freedom. You’re free of all the other stress in life when you’re out there, you’re not thinking about bills, homework, drama, or anything else. All I care about out there is just the guys in the huddle and getting the ball in the end zone. Other than that, I enjoy fishing and just being outdoors.

Q: If you were a dog, what breed would you be and why?

A: I’d like to think I’m a wolf because they are loyal to their pack, big, mean, and always protect each other.

Q: What is your favorite sport besides football?

A: I’m not sure, maybe boxing or wrestling. I don’t really have a favorite besides football. I enjoy watching most sports. Whether it’s curling or basketball, I just appreciate it all knowing that all athletes are incredibly dedicated and hardworking to get to where they are.
