NFL Draft Chat with Harvard CB DJ Monroe.

DJ Monroe started at cornerback for Harvard University and has received many accolades during his college career. He was second on the team in tackles in both 2012 and 2013 and was named 2nd Team All-Ivy League in 2013 and Honorable Mention All-Ivy League in 2012. DJ was part of the Harvard team that was Ivy League Champions in 2011 and 2013. DJ is a high-energy player who is versatile, athletic and disciplined with natural football instincts along with the work ethic, talent, heart, and determination to succeed as a professional football player.

Most prognosticators have DJ has a late round pick or signed as an undrafted free agent. He has the talent and desire to reward the team that signs him.






















Q: What is the fondest memory of your college career?
 
A: Finding out we won a share of the Ivy league this year on the bus on the way home from our last game and stopping the bus to go out on the street and celebrate

 
Q: Who was the toughest competitor you faced in college?
 
A: Tyler Varga

 
Q: What was your best game in college?
 
A: Holy Cross 2013

 
Q: What colleges recruited you out of high school?
 
A: West Point, Navy, Presbyterian College, Wofford, Furman, Harvard

 
Q: What made you choose Harvard?
 
A:  I felt that Harvard had the best combination of athletics and academics and it’s really hard to say no to Harvard.

 
Q: What was your favorite NFL team growing up?
 
A: Jacksonville Jaguars

 
Q: Who was your favorite player?
 
A: Donovan Darius
 
 
Q: Which current NFL player most resembles you and the way you play the game?
 
A: Champ Bailey.  We are about the same size, he makes plays on the ball, and is a sure tackler.
 
 
Q: What will distinguish you from other rookies?
 
A: I know from experience that football can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye.  I value every opportunity to practice, play, or improve my game. 

 
Q: What would your former teammates say about you?
 
A: I am a guy who does not make excuses and I always find a way to do my assignment. I play the game with a lot of intensity and passion and am a fun guy to be around off the field. 
 
 
Q: What are you presently doing as far as training?
 
A: I do speed training 3 times per week with Coach Kevin Darlington at Speed 2 Compete and I lift 4 times per week with the program provided by my college strength coach James Frazier.
 
 
Q: How do you think you did or will do on your pro-day?
 
A: I did not think I did as well as I could have at my pro day in my 40 and shuttle but the field drills went well.  I am working to keep improving my numbers.
 
 
Q: Which is your favorite event?
 
A:  20 yd shuttle
 
 
Q: How was the agent selection process for you?
 
A: I did a bit of research on my own and knew what things I was looking for in an agent and when I talked to John he had everything I was looking for.
 
 
Q: Why did you choose John Hernandez and Agency Athlete?
 
A:  I talked to a few guys who had already gone through the process from my school and asked them what they looked for in an agent and what ultimately helped them make their decision.   They told me that John was a great guy and would get me exposure and really fight for me even though I was from a smaller school.  After I talked with John I felt comfortable with him and that he was the right guy for the job and he also emphasized life after football. 
 
 
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
 
1. Martin Luther King Jr.- I would like to talk about the vision and faith it required for him to realize his dream and pursue it so passionately even though it was such a foreign concept at the time.
 
2. Deion Sanders- I would get every little tip and pointer about playing my position from one of the best to ever play it.
 
3. Denzel Washington- I idolized him growing up and it would be cool to know how he gets into character.
 
 
Q: What do you want to do besides football?
 
A: Go to law school and pursue a career in law
 
 
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
 
A: Bowling, go to the movies, fish, lift weights, spend time with family, and take road trips
 
 
Q: If you were a dog, what breed would you be and why?
 
A: Doberman-They are lean, smart, and aggressive when they need to be.
 
 
Q: What is your favorite sport besides football? 
 
A: Basketball
