The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks are opening the 2014 MLB season on Saturday in Sydney, Australia, but that isn't the wierdest thing they will do this week.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than being a professional athlete, comes news that members of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks were able to literally skip Monday.

That's right.  Now millionaire athletes have it so good they don't even have to go through the worst day of the week for us regular working folks.

No, Major League Baseball hasn't perfected time travel, but their foray into Australia for the season-opening series of the 2014 season enabled members of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks to skip Monday this week.

You see, the teams arrived in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday morning on separate jets from the west coast of the United States.  The 15-hour flight took the teams across the International Date Line, which put them in a time zone 18 hours ahead of the one they left behind.  So, in essence, they missed Monday.

The teams will work out at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday before Team Australia takes on the Diamondbacks on Thursday and the Dodgers on Friday in exhibition games.

Then Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers in the MLB season opener in the stadium on Saturday, opposed by Wade Miley for the Diamondbacks.  They will close out the two-game series on Sunday when Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for L.A. against Arizona's Trevor Cahill.

These will be the first MLB regular season games ever played in Australia and will mark the 100th anniversary of an exhibition games played by the Chicago White Sox and New York Giants at the same stadium.

Previous MLB season openers have been held in Montery, Mexico (1999), San Juan Puerto Rico (2001) and four times in Tokyo, most recently in 2012.

Now we just have to figure out if the teams will have to endure TWO Mondays on their return flight.
