No owner loved his team more than Mr. Ford.

The longtime owner of the Detroit Lions, William Clay Ford Sr., has died at the age of 88.

Ford, the youngest son of Edsel Ford and the last surviving grandchild of Henry Ford, purchased the Lions in 1963.

He was born on March 14, 1925and served in the Navy during World War II. In 1947 Ford married Martha Firestone of the Firestone tire company family.

There is no doubt that William Clay Ford Jr. will take over control of the Lions and that no immediate changes will be made.

Besides William Jr., William Sr. and Martha had three daughters.
