NFL Thinking of 43-Yard Extra Points

Longer extra point kicks?

Back in January NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league was looking into the possibility of eliminating extra points at some point because they were almost automatic.

Only five extra points were missed in 2013, and four of those kicks were blocked.

A new proposal is now on the table to make the extra point a 43-yard attempt instead of a 20-yard attempt to make the kick more challenging and more exciting.

While the idea is still in its infancy, the proposal is to move extra points back from the 2-yard line to the 25-yard-line for the 2014 preseason and see how it goes.

If anything, it’s a better idea than flat out eliminating the extra point all together or making every extra point a two point conversion.
