A $3.7 million gamble.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel decided to opt out of the second year of the two-year deal he signed with the team last year and test the free agent market.

Cassel appeared in nine games with six starts for the Vikings last year and he won three and lost three. He did however come off the bench and lead the Vikings to wins over the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears.

With the decision Cassel is leaving $3.7 million on the table and testing his luck on the open market but it remains to be seen whether another team is going to give him a chance to start or if he will be signed as a backup.

There is still a chance that he could play for the Vikings but it is not very likely.
