Lions load up on offensive gurus.

The Detroit Lions are trying everything they can to make Matthew Stafford a winner and adding Joe Lombardi as offensive coordinator was the teams’ next step in the process.

After hiring Jim Caldwell as head coach because of his work with Peyton Manning with the Indianapolis Colts, Lombardi, the grandson of coaching legend Vince Lombardi, was hired because of his work with Drew Brees as quarterbacks coach with the New Orleans Saints since 2009.

Lombardi has not called plays in the NFL before so at this point it is unclear whether he or Caldwell will be calling the plays.
