It's a Good Time to Be an Eagles Fan

The Eagles are the only team in the NFC East that has never won a Super Bowl, but they have the brightest future of any team in the division....thanks mostly to the other teams.

As a life-long  Philadelphia Eagles fan, I have endured more than my fair share of losing.  Fourteen years of Andy Reid was the sporting equivalent of being water-boarded, but now things are finally looking up for Eagles fans.

Oh sure, new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly seems to be a good coach, but that's not why the future looks bright in Philly.  No, it has more to do with the rest of the division than anything the Eagles are doing.

Last weekend showed that the Eagles just might have the best quarterback in the division.  Nick Foles leads the NFL in passer rating (117.0), throwing 23 TDs and only 2 INTs.  By contrast, Tony Romo continued to prove that he melts like the Wicked Witch of the West every December, with two game-losing INTs in the 4th quarter last week against the Packers.  Meanwhile, Eli Manning threw 5 INTs against the Seahawks and leads the NFL in INTs (25), while only throwing 16 TD passes.  And in Washington, RGIII was just "benched".  Mike Shanahan says it was to protect his QB, but NFL defenses seem to have Griffin figured out in only his second season.

Kelly might be the only coach in the NFC East who will still have his job next season.  Jason Garrett's in way over his head in Dallas.  Tom Coughlin's time is up in NY.  And Shanahan is doing everything he can to force the owner to fire him.

Then there are the owners of the other franchises in the division.  You can't say anything bad about the Mara family in NY, but they're the exception.  As an Eagles fan, I hope Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder discover the Fountain of Youth and live forever.  That way, neither of those teams will ever win anything ever again.  Keep up the good work boys.

So you see, it's a good time to be an Eagles fan.  The team is young and improving.  The coach is learning and couldn't possibly do anything dumber than last week.  And Andy Reid is finally gone.

Good times.  Good times, indeed.
