Cutler will play if ready.

After the biggest game of his career, Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown was named offensive player of the week and the head coach is hoping that he will be back on the bench this week against the Cleveland Browns.

Bears coach Marc Trestman told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune on Wednesday that he is “optimistic” that Jay Cutler will be back behind center this Sunday.

McCown has filled in more than admirably while taking over for the injured starter and it has caused somewhat of a QB controversy in Chicago among fans and the media but not within the Bears themselves.

Trestman has said all along that when Cutler is healthy that he will start and McCown himself has repeatedly said that he is the backup, wants to help the team win and that Cutler should start when he is ready.

After all, it’s not that Cutler was playing badly before he was injured and should start if he is ready, regardless of how well McCown has done in relief
