Two Jags losses did the trick.

After losing 11 games in a row including two to the Jacksonville Jaguars this season, the Houston Texans fired head coach Gary Kubiak on Friday. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

After going 10-6 in 2011 and 12-4 last season and winning their first two games this season, the Texans were considered serious contenders this year.

This season was Kubiak’s eighth season and he had an overall record of 61-64 with only two losing seasons prior to this season.

The Texans will be looking for a head coach with experience and former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, a Texas native, has been mentioned as a possible replacement. Smith did not coach anywhere this season.

Smith coached the Bears for nine seasons and had an overall record of 81-63 with one Super Bowl appearance in 2006.

Whoever the new coach is, he will probably have the No.1 pick in next April's NFL Draft.
