Ballon d’Or could be amongst trophies displayed…

With Lionel Messi out of contention still for a few weeks and after a stellar 2013 capped with the famous hat-trick scored in Sweden, Cristiano Ronaldo has stepped a few inches closer to finally win the Ballon d’Or.

While awaiting for the official news from FIFA, Portuguese media have disclosed that the Real Madrid striker will open his museum where the trophies and medals won throughout his career will be on show.

Cristiano’s mother Maria had repeatedly told him to do so and Alberto Joao Jardim, president of Madeira, has welcomed the initiative with open arms from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. “When Ronaldo wins, Madeira wins,” he claimed, beaming.

Obviously, for Funchal – which stages the largest fireworks show in the world on New Year’s Eve – it will be another touristic attraction. This is why the museum will be hosted in a building next to the local Casino.

Mr Blatter may soon reluctantly have to consign him the Ballon d’Or, but Mr Jardim has already promised to build a statue in Funchal in the foreseeable future. “But first we’d like him to deliver more trophies for Portugal”, possibly hinting at next summer’s World Cup. That museum in the city center will have soon lots of shelves available, after all.
