The 10th man makes the difference.

21 years is a long time to wait. But Pirate friends showed they were ready when the playoffs began in Pittsburgh.

The fans came dressed in all black. They chanted "MVP" for Andrew McCutchen. They taunted Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto after he gave up a homerun. They sang "Cue – to". He dropped the ball. He gave up another home run on the next pitch.

The Pirates scored three times over the first three innings, while the Reds did not even have a baserunner. When they finally got one run in the top of the fourth, the Pirates answered with two more in the bottom of the inning.

The fans did show their inexperience in the eighth inning. Two fans interfered with balls on a questionable home run and a ground rule double. It did not affect the outcome of the game. However, there's a fan from 2003 hiding somewhere in Chicago who can tell you about what it means to interfere with the ball in play.

The Reds ended the season losing six games in a row. It was their longest losing streak of 2013. Their failure to win two games this past weekend cost them Homefield in this playoff game. It would have kept the fans on their side.
