2012 NL Central BOLD Predictions
Written by FrankieJ, Tuesday February 07 2012
With the NFL season coming to a gripping (yet somehow awkward) end, it is the baseball season that is drawing near and raising more questions then answers for the NL Central. Prince Fielder... Gone. Albert Pujols... Gone. The Cubs have depleted their already slim middle of the order by shipping Aramis and Carlos Pena out of town. Is Epstein taking a page from the Florida Marlins play book? Let's try and win with everyone from the farm teams. I quote Rob Schneider (and I can't believe I am doing this) "maybe now isn't the best time to make sure everyone has had a chance to play!" Oh well, it can't possibly get any worse, right? Here are my 2012 NL Central predictions
Frank's bold predictions for the NL Central:
1. The Pittsburgh Pirates will win the division with a record of 79-83 becoming the first team to win a division title with a losing record since its inception, and joining the ranks of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks will become the first team with a losing record to advance in the playoffs
2. The Astros will take second place on the last day of the season by sweeping the Braves to knock them out of the wild card slot in the East for the second straight season but still coming up short with a sub .500 winning pct.
3. The Brewers planes will get to their destinations a little faster now that Prince is no longer riding aboard, coincidentally the team will not know what to do with the extra time and become lethargic.
4. The Cardinals will realize that Tony LaRussa and Albert Pujols are not in the dugout for the first time at the beginning of August. Mayhem will ensue and they will decide to merge with the Toledo Mudhens of Ohio.
5. The perennial mid-seaters our beloved Chicago Cubs with a record of 72-90 will fall out of contention when they are swept by the Pirates in 2 series in the first 2 weeks of the season.
6. Dusty Baker will swallow his toothpick and begin choking... but Johnny Cueto will ninja kick him in the stomach creating the perfect Heimlich maneuver to save his life.
